Match Reports 20018/19

 Sat 10th August

Capenhurst Villa  2  v  1  Ashville ..... Cape kicked off with a great start to the Division 1 campaign, and came out worthy winners, against a decent Ashville side.
In an entertaining, end to end game, we were 0-1 down after 25 mins, after a defensive slip up. But we were awarded a penalty 10 mins later, when Ellis Williams was upended in the Ashville box. Danny Page smashed home the spot kick to level at 1-1. The second half was just as open, with chances at either end, and Danny Page grabbed his second goal to put us 2-1 up on 53 minutes. It was a great team effort, but Cape keeper Andrew Millington, deserves a mention, after an outstanding day, keeping numerous Ashville efforts out, but John Wainwright took the Cape MoM vote, with another decent performance. Well in lads.

Marshalls FC Res   8  v  0   Capenhurst Villa Res ..... Well this wasn't a great opening game for the ressies, as we went 1-0 down in less than a minute, and were 6-0 down at half time. There was no coming back from such a bad start, but nevertheless, there was a marked improvement in the second half. Eric Gilmore was Capes stand out man today, taking the Cape MoM, as most of the team collectively, had an off day. Heads up boys.

'Back To Results'

 Tues 13th August

Capenhurst Villa Res   2   v  1   Willaston FC..... This was a vast improvement on Saturday, as the Ressies took all three points, in an exciting encounter, playing host to local rivals Willaston. It turned out to be the John Britton show on the night. As he bagged a smart double either side of a Willaston equaliser, to seal a great 2-1 win, whilst also picking up the Cape MoM. Well done lads.

'Back To Results'

 Sat 17th August

Maghull FC  4   v  1  Capenhurst Villa ..... Well this was a strange game, as Cape took an early lead through Ellis Williams, with a well worked goal on 17 mins 1-0. Cape had Maghull chasing shadows, and were well on top. Maghull scored a 25 yard screamer, shortly before half time, to make it a flattering 1-1. But we never came out in the second half, and were a completely different team. Maghull took full advantage, taking the lead on 53 mins with a thundering header, then added another two goals, to send us back home with a 4-1 loss. It was bewildering how our form dropped in the second half, after a very good first half, which was as good as i've seen from Cape. Phil Jones picked up the Cape MoM.

Capenhurst Villa Res   5  v  1   Ellesmere Port Town Res ..... The ressies are picking up nicely now, after our opening day loss. And in this local derby, we came out convincing 5-1 winners. Louis Phelan claimed a double, along with the in-form John Britton who claimed another brace. Matty Hickman also registered, in what was really a stroll for Cape. The visitors claimed a consolation goal late on, but Cape were just too good on the day. A well deserved Cape MoM was James Sheridan.

'Back To Results'

 Tues 20th August

Capenhurst Villa Res  3   v  1   West Kirby FC Res ..... We left it late, but another fine win, means three on the spin, for the runaway Ressies. Cape were doing most of the pressing, and Eric Gilmore fired us ahead, on 34 mins 1-0. But the seasiders caught us on the back foot, and levelled just before half time 1-1. The game see-sawed a bit from end to end, but when it looked like the spoils would be shared, up popped Ben Marray, on 81 mins, to rifle in a rocket, 2-1 to Cape. That left Cape MoM on the night, Louis Phelan to cap off a great performance with a cracking goal, direct from a free kick on 84 mins, to wrap up the points 3-1. Get in !!

To Results'

 Sat 24th August

Capenhurst Villa Res   2   v   4   Marine FC Res ..... We did the very same thing as in our opening game, giving away early goals then chasing the game. We were 0-2 down after 6 mins. 4-0 down at half time, before we even began to play. A better second half saw Alan Locke score on 55 mins, 4-1, and also hit the bar with a header on 67mins, and Louis Phelan, bagged another goal on 78 mins 4-2, but we gave ourselves far too much to do. Eventually going down 4-2. Cape keeper George Williams picked up the MoM, after a busy first half.

'To Results'

  Wed 28th August

Chester Nomads FC   1  v  2  Capenhurst Villa     ..... Cape made the relatively short trip to Chester Nomads, and came home with a cracking three points. The first half was goalless, with Cape marginally having the upper hand, half time 0-0. But on 55 mins, Nomads took the lead, it has to be said, against the run of play 0-1. But Cape MoM on the night Ellis Williams levelled just 4 mins later 1-1. And it was goal of the night (maybe the season), on 63 mins, as Capes Ashley Wardle smashed home a free kick, from fully 30 yards, 2-1, an absolute cracker, and worthy of winning any game. Three points in the bag. Well in boys.

'Back To Results'

 Sat 31st August

Vauxhall Motors FC  3   v  1  Capenhurst Villa ..... Cape came home empty handed, after a lack lustre performance, at local rivals Vauxhall. We were 1-0 down as early as the 6th minute, and 3-0 down at half time, with only one real effort of note, when Ellis Williams rattled the post. Capes Eamonn Ryan bagged a consolation late on 3-1, but it was too little too late. John Wainwright took the Cape MoM vote.

Capenhurst Villa Res  2   v  1   Heswall FC Res ..... Another win for the ressies, but this one went right to the wire. Cape took the lead on 26 mins, a direct free kick from Louis Phelan 1-0. And it stayed that way until the 83rd minute, when it looked like we were coasting to three points, Heswall levelled 1-1. It seemed like two points going begging, after leading for so long, but Louis Phelan popped up again in the 89th minute, to claim his, and Capes 2nd goal, and secure another win. Phew!! Cape MoM was without question, Louis Phelan

'Back To Results''

  Sat 7th September

Capenhurst Villa   0  v  0    Poulton Royal ..... Poulton win 5-3 Penalties ..... Cape tumbled out of the Cheshire cup at the first hurdle, to 2nd division Poulton Royal. Cape had enough of the play to see off the visitors, but it wasn't to be, as we hit the woodwork twice, one in each half, and had 70% of the possession, but we couldn't make it tell, and it finished 0-0. The game then went straight to penalties, and Poulton scored all 5 pens, to go through 5-3, as Cape missed two spot kicks.

''Back To Results'

  Sat 14th September

Capenhurst Villa   3   v  1   Heswall FC ..... Cape sailed into the next round of the Wirral Senior Cup, after a 3-1 result against division 2 high flyers, Heswall FC. The win came courtesy of a Dom Hoppe double, and an Ellis Williams effort, to secure our appearance in the next round, a home tie to Vauxhall Motors, on October 19th.

Helsby FC  6   v  1 Capenhurst Villa FC Res ..... Cape Ressies had just a solitary Ross Cooper goal to show for their efforts, as we found high flying Helsby too good on the day, and were on the wrong end of a 6-1 result. Heads up boys.

 'Back To Results'

  Sat 21st September

Capenhurst Villa   0   v  3   Chester Nomads ..... Shot shy Cape ship three points at home after a decent enough start. We started off playing keep ball, Nomads hardly touched the ball in the first 20 mins. Ashley Wardle rattled the post on 12 mins, and things were looking really positive. Unfortunately we conceded a goal in first half injury time, 0-1, and we never recovered. Nomads added further goals on 51 and 76 mins, to make it a 0-3 scoreline. Defender Phil Jones picked up the Cape MoM today.

West Kirby FC Res  3   v  2  Capenhurst Villa Res  ..... Cape were really unlucky today, after battling back from 2-0 down, with two John Britton goals, 2-2, the home side scored with just 5 mins remaining 2-3. Not giving Cape enough time to reply. 2 goal John Britton took the Cape MoM.

'Back To Results'

  Sat 28th September

Aintree Villa FC Res  1   v   1  Capenhurst Villa Res  ..... Cape took, what looks like a decent point at Aintree but we were disappointed not to come home with all three. Despite being a goal behind at half time 0-1, the lads were well on top. John Britton levelled on 56 mins 1-1, and we peppered the Aintree goal from thereon, with their keeper having a blinder. The lads were disappointed with a solitary point, after pretty much controlling the match, and hopefully its onwards and upwards from here. The returning Shaun Weaver ran the show in midfield, and easily took the Cape MoM.

'Back To Results'

  Sat 5th October

Neston Nomads FC  1   v   3   Capenhurst Villa FC ..... This was a much better performance, as we took all three points at Neston Nomads. We were 1-0 up on 22 mins, John Wainwright heading home from a Andy Henry free kick. Cape did make several other chances but it stayed 1-0 at half time. The returning Danny Page made it 2-0 on 57 mins, arriving onto the pitch just a minute previous. Danny Walker put the game to bed on the hour, with our third 3-0. And although Nomads scored a consolation on 70 mins, 3-1, it was Capes day, and we were by far the better side. Danny Wainwright took the plaudits with the Cape MoM.

Capenhurst Villa FC Res  6   v  0  Chester Nomads FC Res  ..... Cape went goal crazy, and put visitors Chester Nomads severely to the sword. 3-0 up at half time, with the opener from John Britton on 12 mins, a Charlie Bell effort on 38 mins, 2-0. And John Britton again just a minute later 3-0, Half time. The second half went much the same way, as John Britton completed his hat-trick on 47 min, 4-0. Carl Wellesbury added a 5th on 51 minutes 5-0. And veteran defender Phil Strapp got in on the act in the 74th minute. Capping off a fine team performance, tapping home to make it 6-0, and a comfortable three points. Leon Wall took the MoM, edging out goal hero John Britton.

'Back To Results'

  Sat 12th October

Capenhurst Villa FC  0   v  3  Mossley Hill Athletic FC  ..... Cape came out second best, against one of the two remaining unbeaten sides in Division One. Mossley Hill showed why they have had an unbeaten start, and went in at half time with a 3-0 lead. The game was then over as a contest, but Cape did step up their game in the second period, albeit to no avail, as we couldn't find the back of the net. The final score stayed 3-0 to the visitors. Cape MoM today, was the tireless Billy Nixon.

'Back To Results'

  Sat 26th October

Capenhurst Villa FC    P   v  P   Vauxhall Motors FC  .....

Rainford United FC   P  v  P   Capenhurst Villa FC Res  .....

'Back To Results'

  Sat 2nd November

FC Bootle St Edmunds   5  v  1   Capenhurst Villa FC Res ..... Cape started off well against top of the table St Edmunds. And our leading scorer, John Britton put us 1-0 up on 23 mins. But as we were still celebrating, the home side rattled in a leveller just 2 minutes later 1-1. They scored again, right on half time, to go in 2-1 up, undeservedly. But the unbeaten side, showed exactly why they were top of the table, in the second half, scoring 3 more goals without reply, to make it a flattering 5-1 scoreline. Ellis Williams took the Cape MoM, as Capes stand out performer.

'Back To Results'

  Sat 9th November

Rainhill Town FC  1   v  2  Capenhurst Villa FC ..... Cape took a welcome three points, away at Rainhill Town FC. Although Cape had dominated most of the play in the first half, the sides went in 0-0 at half time. The second half sprung to life immediately, and on 49 mins Ellis Williams put cape 1-0 to the good. The home side picked up their game, and drew level on 65 mins 1-1. It was end to end now, and on 75 mins Danny Page slotted home, to give Cape a 2-1 lead, and subsequently the three points. Charlie Thomas took the Cape mom, with some stout defending.

'Back To Results'

  Sat 16th November

Capenhurst Villa FC  Res  1   v  2  Ashville FC Res  ..... Cape exited the Wirral Amateur cup, after todays game was switched to Ashville, due to our pitch being unplayable. We started off fine, and went ahead, courtesy of an own goal on 24 mins, 1-0. But the lead didn't last long, as Ashville levelled on 26 mins, 1-1. In a tight affair, both sides had enough chances to win it in the second half, but it was Ashville who took theirs on 79 mins, to go through to the next round 2-1. Bad Luck boys.

'Back To Results'

  Fri 22nd & Sat 23rd November

Vauxhall Motors FC  2   v  1  Capenhurst Villa FC ..... Cape wont go any further in this years Wirral Senior Cup, but how we lost this one i dont know. A young Vauxhall side went 1-0 up on 14 mins, and doubled their lead on 21 mins, to make it 2-0. Apart from the two goals against, Cape still looked well in the game. We created some great chances, and finally got our reward on 42 mins, when John Wainwright finished off a great move, 2-1. The second half saw even more superiority from Cape, but we just couldn't find the killer touch in front of goal, creating enough chances to win two games, but it just wasn't to be our night. Bad Luck boys.

Pensby FC  0   v  3  Capenhurst Villa FC Res..... Cape sailed into the next round of the Sheild, courtesy of a decent 3-0 win. John Britton opened the scoring on 16 mins, but we had to wait until 65 mins, before we put the game to bed. And Cape MoM on the day Rob Macdowell slotted home, to make it 2-0. Pensby put up a spirited display, but Cape were too good on the day, and Matty Concannon netted on 85 mins, to secure our spot in the next round. Nice one lads.

'Back To Results'

  Sat 30th November

Ellesmere Port Town FC    6   v  0    Capenhurst Villa FC ..... Cape went out of the Pyke Cup, after a performance best described as poor. 2-0 down after just 3 minutes, in what finished as a 6-0 drubbing. Not much more to say really.

'Back To Results'

  Sat 7th December

South Liverpool FC    6   v  0    Capenhurst Villa FC ..... Cape travelled to runaway league leaders South Liverpool with a scratch side, and unfortunately had the same result as the previous week. But this was a miles better performance. In fact in patches Cape more than matched our hosts, and were really unlucky to be on the end of a 6-0 scoreline. Tom Challinor was our stand out man, thoroughly enjoying his step up from 2nd team duty. But the rest of the lads showed the spirit, sorely lacking against Ellesmere Port last week. And everyone came off with their heads held high.

 'Back To Results'

  Sat 14th December

Ellesmere Port FC    1   v  3    Capenhurst Villa FC ..... Cape travelled to the EPSV and 4G Astro, and turned the tables on our closest rivals, after an embarrassing cup defeat to them 2 weeks ago. It was a tight game for most of the afternoon, and our finishing on the day was the key. Goals from Ellis Williams and a Callum Doyle double, brought home the bacon, with a 3-1 victory. We did get a little help from a missed penalty by the home side but nevertheless a well deserved victory. Ian Mitchell picked up the Cape MoM with a towering performance at centreback.

Pensby FC  7   v  2  Capenhurst Villa FC Res..... Cape come up against a rejuvinated Pensby outfit. And after our 3-0 cup win a few weeks back, maybe we were a bit too cocky. And we got a shock, as we were on the wrong end of a 7-2 result. The home side took charge right from the off, and despite goals from Liam Fitzpatrick and Rowan Whelan, Pensby were just too good on the day. Evergreen Danny Wainwright took the Cape MoM vote, with another non-stop performance.

 'Back To Results'

  Sat 21st & 28th December

(21st) Neston Nomads FC Res  1   v  7  Capenhurst Villa FC Res..... Well the Ressies made a great recovery from last weeks poor result, to post a 7-1 win, in a what has so far been, a topsy-turvy season. Liam Fitzpatrick netted a hat-trick, which also assured him of the Cape MoM on the day. Whilst youngster Rowan Whelan bagged a double, and Carl McLeod, along with club leading scorer John Britton added a goal apiece, to make it a comfortable 7-1 victory. Well done boys.

(28th) Capenhurst Villa FC  2   v  3   Vauxhall Motors FC Res..... A loss for Cape, but the lads shouldn't be too downbeat, in what was a  decent game for the spectator. End to end, and chances galore for both sides, but going down to 10 men just proved too much for Cape in the end. Ryan Abraham, scored on 11 mins, with a well taken chip over the keeper, 1-0. But we were still celebrating, when Vauxhall drew level on 13 mins 1-1. On 29 mins we lost a man to a dubious Red card, but John Britton immediately cashed in on a Vauxhall mistake, and finished well, on 35 mins to make it 2-1. Unfortunately the visitors levelled right on half time, 2-2. Vauxhall then took the lead for the first time on 52 mins, 3-2. Both sides created loads more chances to score, but it stayed 3-2. Cape looked a bit leg weary after 60 mins of playing with ten men, but a magnificent effort by the lads, with tireless work throughout the 2nd half. Cape MoM on the day was Ellis Williams, but a valiant effort from the whole team. Heads up boys.

 'Back To Results'

  Sat 4th January

Redgate Rovers FC   0  v  1   Capenhurst Villa FC ..... First team manager Daz Earlam described this as a smash and grab, and was probably right. As our defence had to be on top form, to keep the home side out. A dour but even first half finished 0-0. But Cape took the lead early in the second period, on 55 mins through Danny Page 1-0. It was backs to the wall from thereon, although some great defensive work, meant that stand in keeper Dom Hoppe, only had a couple of decent saves to make. The whole defence deserves a mention but centreback Charlie Thomas picked up the Cape MoM with an outstanding game.

Capenhurst Villa FC Res   0  v  1  FC Bootle St Edmunds ..... The Ressies had a tough task today, against top of the table, and previously unbeaten FC Bootle St Edmunds. And we were definitely up to the task. We came off at full time with heads held high, unluckily losing out 0-1, to a 75th minute strike. Throughout the game, we caused the visitors plenty of problems, and were unlucky not to pick up at least a point. Evergreen Rob Macdowell took the Cape Mom, marshalling our young Cape midfield.

'Back To Results'

  Sat 11th January

Capenhurst Villa FC   0    v  3   Rainhill Town FC  ..... Visitors Rainhill turned the tables on Cape, after our fine away win at Rainhill back in November. They took sweet revenge with a 3-0 result, on a day when Cape were never really at the races. Troubling the visiting keeper very rarely, until the last 15 mins, when we created a couple of decent efforts, but the game was already over as a contest. Defender Phil Jones was our stand out man today, taking the Cape Mom. Much busier than he would have liked, but he never put a foot wrong all game.

Heswall FC Res   1   v  2   Capenhurst Villa FC Res  ..... A deserved win at Heswall reserves, and a welcome 3 points. It was all square at half time 0-0, with defences generally on top, but Ross Cooper opened the scoring early in the second half 1-0 to Cape. Heswall fought back bravely, and levelled on 71 mins 1-1. It was looking as though the spoils would be shared, but with the clock on 86 minutes, it was Cape top marksman, John Britton who was on hand to slot home a winner, 2-1. Giving the home side no time to reply. James Sheridan took the Cape MoM, with a Non stop performance.

Capenhurst Villa FC       v      Maghull FC  ..... Game Off Waterlogged Pitch

Poulton Victoria FC     v     Capenhurst Villa FC Res  ..... Game Off Waterlogged Pitch

'Back To Results'

  Sat 25th January

Marshalls FC  7   v   1  Capenhurst Villa FC  ..... Well not a great deal to say about this one, as we were 3-0 down before i'd even finished my pre match Bovril (12 mins). Dom Hoppe did score a well taken consolation goal on 15 min 1-3, but too many players were off their game today, and the Marshalls keeper was rarely troubled again. Defender Phil Jones was the Cape MoM again, and as in our previous match two weeks ago, was far too busy.

Capenhurst Villa FC Res   0   v  5   Marine FC Res ..... Not a bad performance, despite the scoreline, as the Ressies bowed out of the Shield, to a far superior Marine FC Reserves. The lads did create chances, and Cape MoM on the day Liam Fitzpatrick, caused the visitors plenty of problems, but Marine didn't pass up on any opportunities, with some clinical finishing, running out 5-0 winners on the day. Heads up lads.
